The majority of mobile phone manufacturers use Lithium-Ion (Li-Ion) batteries in their mobile phone models, however very few of us actually know how to take care of a Lithium-Ion battery. Since the battery is the key to the phone, here are some pointers on how to preserve the life and ensure the safety of your mobile’s Lithium-Ion battery:
- Never discharge a Li-Ion battery fully. It is best to recharge it at 40 per cent capacity to maximise its charge and lifespan.
- Keep your Lithium-Ion battery out of extreme weather. Never store it above 60 degrees Celsius as this could cause it to explode.
- Never keep a Lithium-Ion battery in a moist place as this will cause the battery nodes to rust and corrode.
- Do not dispose of a Lithium-Ion battery in fire. They may catch fire and explode.
- Store your Lithium-Ion battery in a cool place, as this will increase its life considerably.
- A Lithium-Ion battery has a shelf life of approximately five years. The capacity of the battery reduces on an average rate of 20 per cent every year. It is wise to check the manufacturing date of the mobile phone battery before purchasing to get the longest life out of it.
